My Project

The final unit in my science curriculum is all about what plants need in order to grow: water, air, and light. Our curriculum has hands on opportunities but because it is our final unit, there isn't always time to get through everything.

Using the hydroponics kits to grow herbs within our classroom will provide students with a hands on opportunity to see that plants can grow without soil in a quick and efficient way.

The grow lights with timers will mean I don't have to work investigationa around when breaks in our school year take place or when there is sunlight in my classroom. The plants will still be able to grow in winter or while we are gone for spring break.

Many of my students live in areas where outdoor gardening is not possible. Teaching them about hydroponics is one way I can help my students learn about how they can grow their own food.
