Hydroponic Farming for Everyday People

Help me give my students materials such as a variety of growing mediums, net baskets, air pumps/filters, water test kits and organic growing solutions for learning to farm the hydroponic way.

My Students

Many of the students who live in this lush and green habitat, do not necessarily reap the fruits of this fertile land. Life is a struggle here for them, as it is for everyone. With the cost for food being substantially higher than other places in this nation, food becomes a luxury for most.

As our school garden continues to grow, my students inquire about the foods they see growing, and more importantly desire!

As a matter of fact, 100% of our student body receives free or reduced breakfast and lunch, and as it seems, many of these same students are consuming unnecessarily expensive and undesirable snacks out of habit. There is a culture of bad habits to break, and the time is always now!

Knowing the needs and wants of this innocent population, I believe that change begins with an open-mind and positive attitude, allowing education and opportunities to propel them toward having a control necessary for a better quality of living.

My Project

In order to broaden our education in agriculture and environmentally sustainable practices, we will investigate the way different growing mediums and organic fertilizers affect the plants / foods we need and want to grow.

By learning about hydroponic farming, this group of students will not only empower themselves with practical and scientific knowledge, but can free themselves from the steep economic demands of our society.

Students will also be challenged to apply their understanding of this farming system by creating personal designs out of basic household materials that are available to them.

In the end, these future farmers will have a pragmatic way to grow foods that are healthy and desirable.
