What I love most about my students is their creativity and ability to be vulnerable; If they need something they will ask and if I can provide, I do!
Too often students complain of headaches, feeling fatigued or having an upset stomach, my first response is,” How much h2o have you consumed in the last 24 hours?”There is no air conditioning in our classroom for the warmer months and it can get drafty in the cooler seasons. This water cooler will provide much needed filtered water to keep students cool as well as warm with water for tea and cocoa, allowing them to stay focused and engaged with instruction.
According to the CDC, "Drinking water improves memory and attention, helps children maintain a healthy weight, reduces the risk for some chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, and helps prevent dental cavities, if fluoridated. Yet 1 in 5 children and adolescents do not drink any plain water during the day, 1 and a half of school-aged children are under hydrated.”
In addition to this, some students find ways to avoid work in the form of a water break; leaving and being gone most of the class period. To avoid this and keep students hydrated, an in class water cooler and cups will maximize both hydration and exposure to direct instruction and much needed academic support. And for some reason-drinking water out of the cooler-in class,-after gym or a walk up 3 flights of stairs seems to impact water consumption. Maybe it is simply the visual of the water gallons we currently use but I am certain that the dispenser will have an even greater impact on student hydration and
