Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our school, a New York City public school in the Bronx, I teach AP Computer Science, an Arizona State University Cloud Computing Course and Intro to Programming to high school seniors. *This project is to help support my colleagues to better engage their students on remote instruction days. The classrooms that this project will impact include AP U.S History including, Computer Science - Python and AP CSA, Algebra 2, Robotics, Digital Arts, Government & Economics, and our Special Education Support team in CS and Humanities courses.

The demands of college and career have changed rapidly and it is our hope that this hybrid class format will encourage student comfort with remote learning and work opportunities and to better prepare them for the real world.

All Junior and senior classes will mirror an 80% in-person to 20% virtual model. We have been a part of the SBVL learning program in New York City for the past two years and have found a lot of success for our students! With this project I am hoping to better support teachers as they deliver new content, manage lessons, use digital platforms and support all learners in their classroom spaces both in-person and virtual.

In order to effectively teach in a virtual environment teachers need a secondary monitor to both display their slide decks, manage student work platforms and monitor and engage with student progress and identify needs. This will ideally provide a platform to see their students' faces and engage with them accordingly, while still managing the digital tools and resources for their lessons. The pixel real estate available on a single laptop is not enough to effectively support all learners, provide support and manage school information systems during a virtual class. We hope that this project remedies that!
