My students are a great group of children with a deep love for music.
At our school, the students have not had a full time music teacher until this school year.
The students are so excited and cannot wait to see what they will be able to accomplish.
They value the opportunity to participate and learn, and will achieve great things! This love for learning has me excited to create more complex lessons with more instruments and materials! I am looking forward to what this year will bring.
My Project
At our school, the students are wonderfully resilient. One of the ways that they are able to have a creative outlet during their times of adversity, is music class.
After Hurricane Michael devastated our community last year, music has been one consistent outlet for many of the students that I teach.
We are requesting steel drums and mallets to enhance our musical learning.
Many of the items at our school were damaged by the storm, but we were very fortunate that we were able to keep many of the musical instruments that we had before.
One thing that would help out our school music program tremendously, would be to be able to add these steel drums to our instrument inventory. We have seen how much progress these students have made emotionally, following this tragedy, and these drums would allow us to experience music on a whole new level, hopefully helping further our development of a positive mental health.
