Help Mrs. Chaisson

I teach kindergarten in a low socio-economic area. Most of the students at my school are on free or reduced lunch. The majority of my students come into kindergarten not knowing how to hold crayons, pencils, or scissors. They do not know how to write their names, sing their ABC's, or count to 10. We are giving them some of their first experiences.

Our school lost 90-95% of it's materials in Hurricane Katrina. It has been almost three years now and we are still trying to get our school back to where it was pre-Katrina. I was given $500.00 dollars to build back up my classroom materials. I was unable to get much with that amount of money. I have had to depend on donors for the replacement of most of my materials.

I am asking for the donation of a digital camera for my classroom. I will use this to take pictures of the students during all the different activities that we do at school. I will also use it for field trips and school events. I like to make a book for my students of their kindergarten year and give it to them so that they have some really neat pictures and memories from school. My students will also be taught how to use the camera so that they can take some pictures of things that they want to remember- certain field trips, experiences, or friends. Some of these students do not have any pictures of themselves because that is not a priority to their parents- putting food on the table and paying bills is their first priority. This camera will enable these students to have experience taking pictures, and having pictures that they can keep forever.

I would really appreciate this donation. It will benefit my current students and all of my future students. I will also be able to use it at school to take pictures for other people or events that are taking place at our school. Thanks so much for taking time to donate to a great cause-children.
