My Students

I want to be able to help my students experience what John Muir is talking about when he says... "Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."

The highly motivated students in my Junior IB Chemistry class have some of the most interesting and intriguing questions.

We challenge each other and recognize together that life is full of adventure, learning, and opportunity.

They are hard-working, eager to learn, high achieving individuals. Our school is located in a very diverse region of the city and therefore our students speak many different languages and come from many different countries. The school building is overcrowded, under-funded and in considerable need of an overhaul, as much of its interior has not been updated for fifty years.

My Project

We'll be headed to the port of Rockland, Maine and travel to Hurricane Island by boat where we will spend 4 and a half days doing field research to fulfill the requirements of their rigorous IB Chemistry class. My students will learn about sustainable living, the island history, and wildlife, as well as wade in a explore the intertidal zones.

Hurricane Island does a wonderful job of tailoring an experience for students that fits the needs of our program and provides an unforgettable time for all who attend.

Students that have gone in years past have said it was a trip they will remember for a lifetime.
