My Students

I want to be able to help my students experience what John Muir is talking about when he says... "Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."

The highly motivated students in my Junior IB Chemistry class have some of the most interesting and intriguing questions.

We challenge each other and recognize together that life is full of adventure, learning, and opportunity.

They are hard-working, eager to learn, high achieving individuals. Our school is located in a very diverse region of the city and therefore our students speak many different languages and come from many different countries. The school building is overcrowded, under-funded and in considerable need of an overhaul, as much of its interior has not been updated for fifty years.

My Project

Once again I am looking forward to taking my students to Rockland, Maine where we will then travel by boat to Hurricane Island. While on the island, we will have the chance to learn about the island's history, geology, flora, and fauna. Following two days of learning the students will then conduct their own research with the guidance of on-site scientists.

The opportunity for students to unplug and experience nature in a way that many never have is priceless.

I love being able to give them this experience and hope it will be something they remember for the rest of their lives.
