Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 4th grade Language Arts/Writing in Houston, TX. My school is located in the inner city where Spanish is primarily spoken. English is their second language. While the students are eager to learn, they have many challenges to overcome ranging from poor home environments, dangerous neighborhoods, gang influences, and language difficulties.

Unfortunately, their enthusiasm has been dampened by hurricane Harvey.

The school suffered extreme damage which ruined most learning materials in my classroom. I would like to give them a brand new classroom library which will help their English and increase their learning.

My Project

Hurricane Harvey may have destroyed our classroom library, but it did not douse our desire to learn. My students will use the new books to help to broaden their students language skills, writing skills, and their comprehension. I have asked for books relating specifically to address grammar and the parts of speech. This will aid them with writing in English.

I have included books which will pique the students' interests while also entertaining them.

The nonfiction books will be used to help highlight the features of expository writing. The books that are specifically about Texas history will aid in the Social Studies for 4th grade. All materials will be added resources to my classroom.
