Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We were supposed to start classes September the 5th at our elementary school. I met my new first graders for the first time on August 31, 2017, at our "Meet and Greet the Teacher " When my students entered our classroom it was all decorated and ready for learning. After Hurricane Harvey, my classroom is gone, my school is being taking apart and we are being relocated to another school 7 miles apart. I met some of my students and they appeared to be energetic and eager to learn. Most of my students are having bad experiences after the hurricane, and I would like them to have an enjoyable and fun year of learning in our class. They come from low income families and they are part of a dual language program.

My Project

My students have been experiencing many changes after Hurricane Harvey and then there is another change. We are being relocated to a different campus 7 miles away and my students will have to get used to more changes in a new environment. The materials I am requesting such as pencil sharpener, laminating machine, hole puncher, stapler and other materials are replacing the ones we lost and will be used to prepare materials for centers and for whole group lessons. I am hoping this will make the transition easier on my kids. All of this materials will help us be creative on or everyday learning by constructing educational art.

Many of my students families were evacuated and lost all of their belongings and don't feel safe.

If I can start the school year with some supplies for my classroom, the environment will be more inviting to learning and hopefully they will feel safe during school time.
