My Students

My students are a part of a Title 1 school and over 97% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. My scholars are also identified as Life Skills and have several academic challenges. However, their designation as a Title 1 student or special education has not limited their desire or drive to learn and succeed. They are all eager learners and always strive to do their best with each new challenge that is presented to them. My students eagerness to learn inspires me. The iPads would allow better implementation of apps (alternative communication software) that help my scholars experience more success in their learning.

My Project

My name is Mrs. Darlene Harvey. I am the servant teacher in Skills for Learning and Living (SLL). There are two paraprofessionals and eleven students that make up the class. Our theme this school year is “Gifts Possessing Gifts”. Our students have some of the brightest and most gifted minds. We are privileged each day to strive towards ensuring a very positive and enlightened educational experience second to none. We support our students’ varying styles of obtaining, fostering, retaining, and processing academic information. We are supported by a core curriculum that is online and interactive.

The requested items will foster independence, guidance, self-advocacy, and dignity in ways that these few lines cannot fully express.

We are not in our class to bring light to not possible. We are here together both students and us their supporting cast (servant leaders, teachers, cheerleaders) to awaken “Can” and “Will” respectively. Our students believe in themselves because we believe in them. The use of the iPad will allow students to maximize the square footage of the classroom for productive, inventive, and collaborative learning. To touch a screen opens a world up to students who have intellectual, fine motor, gross motor, focus, physical, autistic and/or emotional challenges to take their abilities to the next level. Their sense of ownership, purpose and success is supersized.

The laminator and pouches will allow us to preserve and optimize our commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle.
