My students need basic school supplies for the 2017-2018 school year. Many of our students were affected by Hurricane Harvey, and have not been able to purchase school supplies.

My Students

Our Title I Houston elementary school is made up of a diverse population; it's why I love teaching here. Many of our students speak another language, and bring cultural diversity to our student body. Students learn as much from each other as they do from their teachers.

I teach first graders from many different backgrounds, but they all love to learn.

I love planning instructional activities that use critical thinking skills to challenge my students, and I want them to use both their minds and bodies to learn.

My Project

While our school fortunately did not flood, many of our West Houston area students have not been able to purchase school supplies and are displaced by the flood that affected our area.

We need basic school supplies to be able to provide students with the necessary items they will need to succeed.

At this time, students are sharing the few supplies we had left over from last year, but these supplies will not last very long. We are requesting glue sticks, scissors, crayons, markers, and more!

In addition, we do not have enough technology to support 27 students, even if they are working with technology in groups. I hope to add one more Chromebook to the classroom computer sets that we have, in order to accommodate a small group of students.
