My Students
I teach fourth grade language arts and writing in Houston, TX. My school is located in the inner city where Spanish is primarily spoken, and English is their second language. While the students are eager to learn, they have many challenges to overcome ranging from poor home environments, dangerous neighborhoods, gang influences, and language difficulties.
Unfortunately, their enthusiasm has been dampened by hurricane Harvey.
The school suffered extreme damage which ruined most learning materials in my classroom. I would like to replace some of the books, games, and classroom furniture, which were unrecoverable after the hurricane. I would like to be able to continue giving them the best education I can with the necessary equipment.
My Project
Imagine finally getting to begin the school year after a three week delay, and your classroom is bare. You only have minimal supplies. As a student, that isn't very appealing or inviting. I want my classroom to feel like a place of learning, and I want my students to have everything that they need to be successful.
Many of my classroom materials were left behind in my old classroom when we were forced to relocate after Harvey.
I would like to replace some of the books in my classroom library, which will help my students learn about parts of speech and grammar in order to write engaging compositions.
Once we have the books, I will also need storage items to store the library. The shelving unit and the bins will serve in this capacity. The variety of books wills keep the students engaged and eager to read each day from the classroom library.
