My Students

Our library is the center of learning in our diverse population. Our students visit the library often for a variety of reasons and we want to continue to serve them.

Pershing Middle School is a urban middle school of 1700 students.

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Houston. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Mandarin, and Arabic. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. Our students run a garden that produces fresh produce. Our school is a performing arts magnet campus that includes gymnastics, orchestra, band, choir, guitar, and dance. There are a multitude of teams and clubs that fit the needs of everyone.

My Project

The school library should be a hub of information, learning, and exploring. 3D printing allows students to explore materials that may be cost prohibitive to acquire, but not to reproduce in 3D. Art students would have the option of seeing their works from all angles.

Hurricane Harvey presented our students with very real world issues of engineering and urban living.

3D printers would give future engineers the opportunity to explore solutions in a very tangible way. Students in the engineering and robotics classes could use the printer to make models and machine parts. The possibilities are only limited by the students' imaginations.
