Hurricane Harvey Hope

My students and I desperately need an environment with comfy floor seats and balance ball seats. These students come from low income homes, with little encouragement. Students lost hope in Hurricane Harvey.

My Students

I am new to the HISD school district, as well as to this elementary school. I have never met the students that I am about to teach. In meeting with the principal, I heard great things about them. She says that the students are full of energy and ready to learn. She also said that they are a respectful group of kids eager to become greater.

Although I haven't met my students, I am excited to meet them and fill their brains with as much math and knowledge of the world as possible.

These kids are low-income kids with little parental support and were devastatingly affected by Hurricane Harvey this time last year. I am trying to create the only positive environment most of them will see all year. Please help!

My Project

The comfy seats and ball seats might appear to be merely seats, but they are so much more. I don't even know my students yet, but I already love them and want the best for them. These students were effected and totally devastated by Hurricane Harvey and I know that creating a fun and exciting environment would warm their hearts and encourage them to achieve excellence. I don't want to bring these students into an unenthusiastic and typical learning environment. They may not have the best, but they deserve the best. I imagine the students working independently and in group practice, lightly bouncing on the balls at their desk in deep focus. Learning while having a great experience.
