Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a Title I school where 85% of our students get free breakfast and lunch. Most of our students have limited resources and often times, teachers need to spend their own money to make sure kids have what they need, as well as special treats the children enjoy.

Having a way to keep food cold is a basic need for everyone.

Unfortunately, city schools like ours rarely come equipped with these essentials. I am writing this project to ask for a compact refrigerator for our fourth-grade classroom. We used to have a 10-year-old hand-me-down shared fridge that was supplied by a previous teacher. Unfortunately, it broke down and we had to stop supplying our students with this common service.

Children do better in class when they are not concentrating on their empty stomachs. An accessible refrigerator will allow us to keep healthy snacks for students who come to school hungry, students who just can't wait for lunch, or students who need an extra refreshment in the afternoon to keep them going. Oftentimes, students will choose a healthy snack as a reward if they are available to them. One of their all-time favorites is cookies with milk! It has been a while since students have had that as an option because we do not have any space to store the milk. This refrigerator will help to provide choices and teach students the benefits of eating healthy snacks. Please help us bring cold refreshments and tasty treats to the classroom.
