Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am currently a middle school counselor in a high needs middle school in the South Bronx. Although my students face many obstacles, even before the school day starts, they come to school prepared and ready to learn. Their eagerness to learn and grow is contagious.

In order to ensure that my students receive a quality and equitable education, it is imperative that they have access to resources that best enhance their learning experiences.

These resources might be something as simple as healthy snacks.

My Project

My students have very long school days. They start school at 8:24 AM and finish their day at 4:00 PM. Throughout the long school day, several students knock on my door daily complaining of hunger. Although they eat lunch, their lunch periods are early and as the day goes by, their appetites grow and their abilities to focus decrease.

Healthy snacks such as nuts and granola bars will help my students curb their hunger and stay on task.

Along with snacks, a water filter will help quench my students' thirst especially during the upcoming hot weather months. When students are hungry they cannot learn and your donation will help my students stay on task so that they can achieve their academic and personal goals.
