My Project

Snacks are an important part of a child's growth and development. Various studies suggest that children should snack throughout the day in order to keep up with the nutrient demands of their growing brains and bodies. Moreover, snacking has been linked to improving overall mood. Food also allows for students to connect socially.

These snacks will provide sustenance for students to get through the day.

I often have students ask for food multiple times throughout the day, even when theyʻve eaten breakfast and/or lunch. Therefore, this project will allow me to help my students be at their best and ready to learn when they are in the classroom. Additionally, food is an important part of the culture in Hawaiʻi.

Moreover, other miscellaneous supplies will help me support students as well. For instance, the printer ink will help me offer printing services for students, as well as enable me to post important school information around my office (which is also the purpose of the clear pocket sleeves). The organizational bins will be used to keep the snacks safe and secure. The paper towels will help me to distribute snacks and keep a clean environment. Lastly, the batteries will help me keep my clock powered, so that I can keep track of sessions, passing times between classes for students, and the like.

As ʻŌlelo Noʻeau #2178 reads, "Mōhala i ka wai ka maka o ka pua," which directly translates to "Unfolded by the water are the faces of flowers." This proverb can be interpreted as meaning, "Flowers thrive where there is water, as thriving people are found where living conditions are good." As a counselor, Iʻd like to be a source of support for my students, like the water is for the flowers, so that they can thrive.
