My Students

Even the most reluctant reader is riveted by "The Hunger Games". My co-teacher and I teach a challenging inclusion class; many of our students are resistant to independent reading. With a gripping plot and intricate characters, this book is the antidote to our plight.

Our students are an enthusiastic group of seventh graders.

My co-teacher and I have been their English teachers since they entered middle school last year. We started reading whole class novels with them last year (a donor's choose project funded one of them - The Boy in the Striped Pajamas). Unfortunately, budgets are tight; we cannot afford to purchase the books ourselves or through the school.

My Project

We are requesting a class set of the first book in the trilogy, "The Hunger Games". The novel is exciting, timely, and fast paced. Set in the future, it centers around the story of Katniss Everdeen, a tough teenager sent from her district to participate in the annual Hunger Games. The themes running throughout will provide us with infinite avenues for discussion.

Honestly, who can resist the look and feel of a new book, all your own?

We are trying to instill a lifelong love of reading in our students. We feel strongly that this particular piece of fiction can do that better than any lesson we can plan.
