My Students

This wonderful group of Middle Schoolers make up the Lowe's Grove Middle School Drumline & Golden Goddesses Dance Team. These kids travel all during the school year, performing at different events all throughout the east coast. They practice twice, sometimes three times per week to maintain their tip-top performance condition.

Nutrition, is the key to good sustained energy, and improves cognitive functions in kids.

The group normally practices from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Many students may not eat school lunch so therefore, they may not have eaten since he previous night.

My Project

These snacks are badly needed on a weekly basis since the group practices weekly throughout the entire school year. We have a few parents who help provide snacks, but many of these parents operate on a "shoestring" budget, and our school is a Title I school in the city. As the instructor of the group I have to make sure these wonderful kids have some type of snack after school, until 6:00 when practice is over. I spend at least $2500.00 of my own money per year just in snacks alone. It is very difficult to feed 35 middle schoolers 3-4 times a week, but I find a way to make it work!
