My Students

Each student at FLI is an extremely engaged and eager learner! We're excited that we have designed novel-based interdisciplinary units of study, and this year our goal is to integrate music appreciation as well!

The students at FLI are enthusiastic learners: they love reading, and even more so, really love their school!

We're an all-inclusive school, and in our class we have a number of students with language-based learning disabilities, as well as students for whom English is not their first language.

My Project

With a designated class iPhone, students will have an opportunity to listen to the music that is featured in each of the class novels. In this way, our scholars will feel a greater connection to the novels. The music will truly enliven the reading experience by promoting meaningful connections and deepening comprehension! As well, audiobooks can support our auditory learners, and those students for whom decoding still impacts comprehension. Beyond the songs and audiobooks, there are a number of engaging (& relevant) Podcasts that students can enjoy, and learn from, in order to further their understanding of content area topics.

The Humanities iPhone will live in the classroom and will be a shared resource among the ELA and Social Studies Teachers, as well as the special education teacher who will push in daily to work one-on-one with students.

The resource will infuse music into the fabric of the sixth grade classroom; in a way, it will replace music class, which is not apart of the academic program here at FLI. Further, it is a resource that can be used year after year!
