Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am excited to launch a weekly Bingo Lunch in my classroom—an opportunity for students to come together, take a break from their screens, and enjoy some fun, music, and friendly competition. In an age where social isolation is common, especially during lunch, this event aims to create a welcoming space for students to connect, laugh, and engage with one another in a relaxed environment.

How It Works:

No Phones Allowed – This is all about real, in-person interaction!

Students Drop in and Play – Bingo will run during lunch, and students can join at any time.

Great Prizes – Winners can earn motivational stickers and homework passes from teachers.

Music & Fun Atmosphere – I’ll emcee the event, playing upbeat music to keep the energy lively and fun.

My goals for this project is to get students off their phones and interacting with each other. Every minute spent interacting with another human, is a brain connection made and gained. Mental health can be improved one lunch period at a time, and we have to try! I want to offer students the opportunity to hang out with friends, to make new friends, to experience human connection while having fun so that they can have improved mental health.

Students in my high school are way too stressed! Their parents put pressure on them to do well, teachers have very high expectations, but the students themselves are constantly competing with each other, worrying about a test or a project, and their GPA, as if life itself depended on it. Students at Peninsula are special, and they need a break. They need to have an opportunity to have fun at school, to enjoy themselves and create lasting memories.
