This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of my favorite quotes is "Music is the strongest form of magic"- Marilyn Manson. I am incredibly lucky to be able to witness this magic everyday in my classroom. I get to see my students grow, work together, and experience all of the joy that comes with learning an instrument and playing music.

My students, ranging from grades 6-8, make it worth all of the hard work it takes to build a band program.

They are committed and enthusiastic. They support each other inside and outside the classroom. They are eager to help in any way they can to further this program. We performed our first concert in December, and it was a huge success. I wish I could bottle the looks on their faces when they finished performing. It truly was a magical night for the students, parents, and me. I am lucky that my administration is also incredibly supportive of the band program in every way they can. They help with giving us as much rehearsal time as the day allows. They are vocal to the students in how proud they are of the students' achievements in music. We are all excited about our second concert coming up this spring!

My Project

With all of the positive things that are happening for my band program the only struggle is that I am always short on instruments for the number of students who want to learn. Our school is a high need school in which most of the students cannot afford to purchase or rent their own instruments. The only opportunity they will have to learn is through the school providing them with an instrument to use. Saxophone is the instrument that I am in most demand of. I have a waiting list of students who would like to join band and learn the saxophone. They may not get that opportunity because of my limited supplies and funding. Although my administration would love to be able to buy many instruments for my program there is no funding directly from the school because of budget constraints. This is my only recourse in gaining more supplies.

With these donations for the saxophones I will be able to give more students the opportunity to join band.

The band will be bigger, which would then allow them to play better music. With so much excitement already in the program, these donations will expand that energy to new students. We cannot wait to see and hear our ensemble grow!
