My Students

Think about how good it feels to accomplish a difficult task all by yourself. That's how my seniors feel. They are required to create a portfolio of their English work as their final assessment. It's overwhelming at first, but the students are always impressed with the work they have completed.

I teach a diverse group of seniors at a small city school in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.

We face many challenges here. More than 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunches and almost 10% of our students speak a language other than English at home. Although the poverty level is high, many of the seniors are planning to attend two and four-year colleges this fall. Some of them have already begun internships at elementary schools and the community hospital. No matter what challenges they face, they are determined to succeed and always put forth their best effort.

My Project

To help prepare these amazing students for college and for the “real world,” they are required to complete many research projects, presentations, and creative writing pieces and then collect them in a portfolio as their final assessment. They have been working diligently, and I want these portfolios to be something the seniors can be proud of and can take with them to college and maybe even to a job interview. By providing a HP color laser jet printer with replacement ink cartridges, you will give my students the opportunity to showcase their hard work and really make it stand out. By supplying the updated technology, which will allow students to show their best work, you may even help them create portfolios that could help them be accepted to college or even obtain jobs.

Your donation will directly impact these students and show them that there are people in the community who care about them and their futures.

Providing the HP printer and extra ink cartridges will be a daily reminder that to be successful, one has to strive to do his best.
