Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Working as the RSP teacher, I work with students with a wide variety of disabilities. Among other disabilities, the majority of my student have been diagnosed with Autism and or ADHD. My students are very smart and capable of achieving amazing things, as long as they are able to manage their emotions, anxiety and many times fear.
In my class, I currently have a few massage, bean bag, and swivel chairs that help my students, calm down, relax, and get their fidgets out when needed.
We currently do not have enough of these flexible seats available, therefor I would like to add to another football swivel chair to my class. The chair will give my students the necessary movement and help them remain calm and focused during class time.
I have a few students that love to color and have noticed that giving them time to sit and color when they are frustrated, helps calm and relax them. My older 6th grade kids like to color pictures and or positive quotes, things that we don't find in regular coloring books. The ink that I am requesting will be used to print these pictures and add to our calming corner.
The majority of my students express hunger throughout the day, especially when they don't like what's given for lunch, I'd like to have a variety of nutritious bars, crackers, juice, and snacks to help ease their anxiety and anger when they are hungry.
Without realizing it and in order to help my students decompress, feel calm and secure, my entire class has turned into a calming area. We need these supplies to add to our calming class and help my students be successful.
