This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We haven't started the 2016-2017 school year at this time, and so I will talk about my students in general. They are overall great students who are eager to learn. They enjoy science lessons and yet struggle with reading and mathematics. They are inquisitive, smart, and fun to be around.

The students at my school live in a high poverty area.

Last year the school was 100% free lunch because of the low income. The school is located in a Hispanic neighborhood with a large subsidized housing area.

My Project

This will be the fourth year I have used this book in the classroom. We use this to begin the year and I have several projects that follow along with the story How to Eat Fried Worms. The final part is I have them eat worms (gummy worms in green jello) but I only tell them they have to eat a worm until the big reveal. Every year, they worry about eating worms and continually ask me if I'm really going to have them eat one.

This purchase will allow each student to have a book to follow along while we read the novel.

Students will turn books in after the story and the set will be used in three other classrooms for third grade. I have found that it's a great way to start the year with novel learning and still find parts in the book hilarious (I usually have to explain why I'm laughing so hard while reading certain parts).
