Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are curious, creative, and eager to learn about the world around them. They come from diverse backgrounds, with many learning English as a new language, and they attend a school where the majority qualify for free lunch. Despite facing challenges, they are resilient and excited to explore new ideas. To nurture their curiosity and deepen their understanding of how things work, I am requesting copies of The Way Things Work by David Macaulay. This engaging and beautifully illustrated book will provide my students with clear, accessible explanations of everyday machines and scientific principles, helping them build both their literacy and STEM knowledge.

These books will allow my students to explore concepts in physics, engineering, and mechanics while strengthening their reading comprehension.

By bringing The Way Things Work into our classroom, I hope to spark curiosity and foster a love for learning that extends beyond the pages of a book. For many multilingual learners, visuals and real-world connections are essential tools for understanding new information, and Macaulay’s illustrations provide exactly that. My goal is for students to not only grasp how the world around them functions but also to gain confidence in their ability to ask questions, seek answers, and become independent learners.

My students are special because they bring a wealth of perspectives, languages, and experiences to our classroom, creating a vibrant learning community. They are problem solvers, critical thinkers, and future innovators who deserve resources that fuel their curiosity. With your support, they will have the opportunity to dive into a book that makes science and engineering exciting and accessible. Thank you for considering our project and for believing in the power of knowledge to transform lives!
