Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an amazing group of inquisitive 5th graders. Our class is comprised of students who have IEPs for special education needs, or have English as their second language. They adore learning and reading on their own or hearing stories read to them.

Our children are imaginative and creative, and love learning about the world beyond their neighborhood.

Our school, a moderately-sized elementary school in Queens, NY, is comprised of children from all parts of the globe and we have a large special needs community. They struggle to read on grade level, but they don't give up since reading opens up so many doors for them.

My Project

Our school has no social studies curriculum. But my young students are very excited to learn about how the world we live in and the people who live here. They are interested in seeing how others in history took action to make the world a wonderful place to live and are inspired by real-life success stories. They want to learn about what lies beyond the edge of Ridgewood, N.Y.

Having books about our world and the people in it will inspire them, and give them hope for their own futures!

A library of books about the people, places and events that have formed our world will enrich the minds of these curious learners.
