My students need tomato cages, seeds, a starter set, bucket caddy, watering can, gloves, rain barrel compost bin, rake, and recyclable garbage bags to teach about gardening.

My Students
Students spend too much time engaging with technology and not enough in nature. Let's put down that IPad and pick up some seedlings! I hope to provide a dynamic environment to create opportunities for them observe, discover, experiment, and cultivate their budding green thumbs.
My students are predominantly Chinese-American and live in lower Manhattan.
Like most children, many of them think that food comes from the supermarket. I am a huge proponent of local, organic, and healthy eating and want to bring that knowledge to my students.
My school is Pre-K- 5th grade and has approximately 850 students. My students are amazing and eager to learn. They come from diverse backgrounds, some lived in China with a relative until they were 5, some live with grandparents because their parents work in another state. They all come to school happy and hungry to learn.
As you may know, the school lunches leave a lot to be desired, for example, local produce. I am thrilled to provide another means to literally and figuratively nourish them!
My Project
My students will grow seedlings indoors during the school year using the mini-greenhouse. We will move them outdoors to the garden beds when they are strong enough to survive. I will begin composting and collecting rain water with the requested materials immediately. When summer arrives, we will continue gardening outdoors using the tomato cages and gardening tools.
All children deserve pesticide-free locally grown food.
They should know where food comes from and should respect the fact that farming can be difficult but rewarding. I hope to create life-long gardeners and to continue this project for years.
