Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Currently, our classroom relies on a black and white printer, which limits the types of materials we can produce. A color printer would provide enhanced learning materials, improve student engagement, and increase efficiency. A color printer will serve as a vital tool in delivering high-quality, engaging materials that are essential for a dynamic learning environment. Your support will help bridge the gap in resources and ensure that all students, regardless of their financial background, have access to the best educational opportunities.

With so much access to information online, the transition from handwritten notes to digital formats has caused a significant shift in educational practices.

Research demonstrates that handwriting notes leads to better retention compared to typing. This is largely because handwriting requires more cognitive effort and engagement. Instead of assigning online work, my students write all of their homework down and show their work. Students have lost their ability to take good notes and write down key information. A printer will allow me to print the necessary worksheets to reinforce learning. While digital or guided notes provided to students may be convenient, they do not support long term retention.

In addition, anchor charts play a significant role in classrooms as visual aids to remind students of important concepts, procedures, and strategies. While Amazon has many great math posters I could purchase, it is more useful and economical to design posters on Canva and print them. This also creates a lively, colorful, and welcoming classroom environment. As the year goes on, our white walls fill with information we’ve learned throughout. Anchor charts provide an ongoing reference that students can turn to when they need a refresher on a topic. This self-reliance encourages independent learning and problem-solving.
