This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 20 scholars are energetic, willing to learn, and hopeful. Each day they arrive at school with excitement and full of curiosity for the day's learning. During the day, I address the scholars as who I see them to be: mathematicians, journalist, readers and writers. After school, I go home and think about how I can make learning better for them. Everyday, they inspire me to be a better teacher!
My Project
Mrs. Williams, "I can't read", I can still hear those three words coming from one of my second grade scholars. As a parent and educator, those words nearly broke my heart, but gave me focus and drive. As a new teacher, I began to look at the classroom library and instantly knew I needed to update and restock our library with books for my scholars. I want books for my scholars to learn to love reading. I want books for them to take home in their book baggies and excited to tell me about their reading when they return to school.
