This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The ACHS wrestling team is a dedicated Family of Trojans devoted to one another. Each member is committed to overcoming adversity, working hard, and most importantly, taking pride in what they do. Our teams two seniors are each a reflection of these values. Competing with holes in their shoes and hand-me-down headgear, neither qualified for state last year, after devastating losses. They both entered the offseason lacking confidence and feeling defeated, In addition, they were now without a head coach, and therefore without a sense of direction. But the new season brought a wind of refreshment with a new coach. Although practice was tougher physically and mentally. At one point, one of them said, "I don't think I want to wrestle anymore coach." And now, after winning both of his first two matches of his senior year season, he has shown what it means to overcome adversity, work hard, and have pride, the true qualities of being a Trojan. These are the types of leaders that our wrestlers have to look up to on the Aurora Central wrestling team.

My Project

Our students struggle to commit and be a part of our school. The wrestling team is a family among 1,900 students. As a coach, I am tasked with finding ways to find ways to fund our wrestling team's needs. This is my first year at the school and I want to do whatever is necessary to give our students opportunities to participate in state-sanctioned events.

This is my first year coaching at ACHS and I have an enormous challenge of making the wrestling team an integral part of our school.

Providing every opportunity for my athletes is an essential part of my job. Upon taking the position as wrestling coach, I was informed that we were having our regional tournament four and half hours west of our school. The tournament starts on Friday and will be complete on Saturday afternoon. The means to fundraise money for our team is a challenge, and providing the team with rooms is completely necessary for our wrestlers. I am hoping someone or several people can help our team fund this trip.
