My Students

Our First grade classroom is home to a group of 32 diverse students who come from all different backgrounds, abilities and interests. Our students attend a Title I school. Most of the students come from families of low socioeconomic status, with over 70% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in our state and there are approximately 30 languages spoken within the community.

My co-teacher and I are all about meeting the unique needs of each of our students.

Each morning consists of morning meeting where we establish a positive classroom community. Our students are actively engaged in their learning throughout the day during small group work, project based learning and hands-on activities. Our students are amazing and they deserve the best!

My Project

My students learn best by being exposed to hands-on experiences and by using different kinds of materials. Having different ways to reach my students’ needs is beneficial in helping them grow and succeed.

Many of our students have a strong literacy background while others are still mastering phonemic and phonological awareness skills.

The phonics word building letter cubes are a great tool to enhance their learning in the classroom. This literacy tool will help students with spelling, decoding and word building. These word building letter cubes can be used independently, cooperatively in groups and in centers. My students are motivated and eager to learn and I know they will enjoy another way to build their literacy skills.
