Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th and 5th grade students are a diverse and integrated group of learners. In our Spanish Dual Language class, some students come from Spanish speaking families, but many students do not. Some students receive special eduction services, while others do not. Students' families come from all over the world and speak many different languages.

My students are learning to read in both English and Spanish.

In our bilingual class, some days we read in English and some days we read in Spanish. Our students love to read and look forward to the time each day when they can curl up with a good book.

My Project

My students love to explore bookstores and libraries. They are less enthusiastic to spend time in our classroom library. Part of the reason is that they can tell that our books are old and used. Bookstores and libraries often have the latest books and creative ways to display those books. With these new books, I hope to set up our classrooms library so that it can become as engaging as the children's section of a bookstore. Students often have time during the day when they can choose their own books and read independently. These books will keep them motivated to read in both English and Spanish.
