My Students

Our class is a mix of students that have never learned their numbers, alphabet, and reading. With Hot Dots Jr kits, I can differentiate instruction by having centers where my students can practice skills at their current level.

I teach a wonderful group of twenty-six students that are four-five years old in Southern California.

Some students entered my class without knowing the alphabet and their numbers, and some students can write stories! Every day my students work together to learn new skills, including how to follow directions, work together with their classmates, and listen to stories on our carpet. Over 40% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and every student receives free breakfast. Our school is a fantastic blend of cultures, and many students speak another language other than English at home.

My Project

With such a large range of ages and abilities, my students need to work on their specific skills during center time while I help students that need some extra one-on-one time. I have requested a variety of levels of Hot Dots Jr kits so my early readers have books they can read, and my students with no background knowledge in math and reading can practice sequencing, phonics, reading readiness, and other essential skills on their own. The talking pens are wonderful dogs, owls, kitties, and magic wands that my students will love to use. They talk to my students and tell them if they have selected a correct or an incorrect answer. That way my students can receive instant feedback on their learning while they practice skills on their own during center time. I have also requested batteries because the Hot Dots Jr kits and pens run on batteries.

Your donation to this project means that my students will get the necessary extra practice they need to advance to the next level in reading and math.

The adorable talking pens will be treasured by my students. They will want to learn using the Hot Dots Jr kits because they are so much fun to use, and they won't even know that they are reviewing and learning while they use their Hot Dots Jr kits during center time!
