My Project

Our school is an academically successful, rural high school that is filled to the brim with about 1100 wonderful students. We serve our military community as well, pulling in students whose parents work on military bases. In the state's ranking system, our high-performing high school has been ranked as one of the top ten public high schools in our state for many consecutive years. We have also won accolades in athletics and the arts programs.

We are proud of our success in the classroom and outside of it as well.

This STEM project will provide new gyroscopes and large black solar bags. The gyroscopes are toys that illustrate the concept of precession as we study Earth's movement in space. The kids love them, I just need to add more in our lab to give more kids a chance for hands-on work. The solar bags are large 50-foot black plastic bags that are inflated with air. Once the sun hits the bag, it heats up the bag, and the huge balloon floats aloft. These two STEM materials are such fun for our ninth graders.
