My Students

This year I am transitioning from a classroom teacher to a reading specialist. I want my students to be excited to come to the reading room!

Our school is located in a diverse and vibrant community.

Over 30 languages are represented just at our school alone! There is a beautiful garden that students help to maintain and two playgrounds to keep our students active. Even though our school is big, with close to 700 students, the strong community makes it feel small!

My Project

The shape of a table may seem like an insignificant detail, but any teacher or student who has ever participated in a small reading group knows that it makes a big difference! Right now there is a large rectangular table in the classroom. It does not fit properly in the space and makes it hard to move around. Having a table that is the right size and shape will improve the function and flow in our classroom.

Teaching struggling students to read is the most difficult and rewarding job a teacher can have.

This requested horseshoe shaped table will help me to lead my small reading groups more efficiently and effectively. It will also help my students feel more comfortable in the classroom. They will have more space to move around and I will be able to sit closer to them to listen to them read so they will not feel embarrassed about reading out loud. Please help us reach our goal!
