Horseshoe Table and Seats = Cooperative Learning you Can’t Beat!
My students need a Horseshoe Activity table and Soft Seats so that they can work one-on-one with the teacher, as well as work on projects and assignments in small, cooperative groups.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my first grade class, I have 24 students, ages 6 and 7. I teach at an inner-city school where my students and their families are of lower socio-economic status and speak Non-standard English or Spanish as a first language.
One of my main areas of focus has been obtaining resources that will assist my students in meeting the new and rigorous Common Core Standards, as well as developing their 21st Century Skills.
My students are special because they learn best while working in cooperative groups with their peers and with the teacher. Part of my plan includes increasing one-on-one and small group instruction time so that I can better meet the needs of my students. During one-on-one and small group instruction, I will be able to assess students in language arts and math skills to determine areas of strength and areas of need. I will then be able to design instruction that meets my students where they are and helps to propel them in their learning experiences and academic achievement. Having the proper furniture will make these goals more attainable. Your help with this project would aide in my ability to fully integrate small group, cooperative learning.
My Project
By using a Horseshoe table and Soft Seats during one-on-one and small group instruction, I can help to improve student learning by maximizing cooperative learning strategies and focusing on the unique and individualized needs of my students.
This Horseshoe table will become the cornerstone of the learning environment because I will be able to rotate several small groups of students to the table everyday, where will we drill-down on targeted areas of language arts, such as guided-reading, fluency, and writing skills, as well as math skills—through the use of counters and other and manipulatives.
Small group options, such as Soft Seats, will allow my students the opportunity to work together in a flexible-seating environment, making learning comfortable and accessible for all of my students!
