This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a high school dean and basketball coach. many of my students love sports and love playing sports even more. As a dean and coach, it is my responsibility to see to the needs of my students. Many of my students from from underserved communities and some are even in temporary housing. Making sure my students and athletes have what they need is important.

For this project I have asked for basket balls so that my students can have the opportunity to play basket ball and release the stress of academic rigors.

Many of our students live in areas that are not safe, therefore, playing outside is not a safe option for them. By providing them with an opportunity to play at school I am giving them a safe space to release stress, clear their mind and hone their skills.

Athletes need to stay hydrated and eat if they are going to play rigors sports. I have included water, Gatorade and snacks to help them stay hydrated and give them something to snack on before and after playing. Many of my students have a commute to school that is at least one hour or more and choose getting to school on time over getting something to eat. They clack resources to get things to eat and the snacks I want to offer can help them to get through the day and practice. Having to worry about what to eat will negatively affect their mental health. Empty stomachs prevent learning.
