My Students

"Reading is so boring," is the statement that breaks a teacher's heart. I teach 6th and 7th grade. My students are used to being connected to technology 24/7. I want to use technology to inspire them to read. We have eReaders now we just need the eBooks.

Our school is in a high poverty area of Mississippi.

Many of our students do not see value in education much less in reading and history. My mission is to help inspire them to move beyond their limited experiences and gain a better understanding of the world around them. This giftcard will allow us to choose books that interest them and engage them in their education and reading. A lot of my students do not have books or technology resources at home. The ebooks will allow them to get passionate about reading and gain a better understanding of the world around them. I will also be able to use the ebooks to help students struggling with reading and writing . My accelerated students will also benefit from the added rigor the ebooks can add. These ebooks will engage and add an extra dimension to my history lessons.

My Project

With this giftcard my students would help me choose ebooks to purchase to use with our eReaders. I can download one book and use it on 6 different devices. This means my students will have more access to the books than if I purchased one hard copy of the same book. We would purchase books such as the Percy Jackson series that are related to the topics that we are studying. Other books that would be purchased would be books to add interest to reading. Books such as the Hunger Games series and "Middle School, The Worst Years of My Life".

The giftcard will allow my students to choose which books to add to our eReaders.

This choice will add interest and ownership to the students' reading. Reading is essential to a good education. Reading is also a necessary skill for Social Studies. These ebooks will allow students to improve their reading and gain a love of literature.
