Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you were a child and you were taught many lessons through the use of just books? Well imagine being 6 years old in this day in age and still having to learn the same exact way.

Every week it's the same question, "Teacher when do we go to the computer lab?" During lab time, my students are using reading websites that reinforce phonics skills, reading fluency and comprehension.

When the children are on the computers, these machines have their undivided attention. If a child is captivated by a lesson on the computer, then the student will most likely learn. However, since our school has over 1000 students, all classrooms are limited to attending the lab once a week for thirty minutes. Our school serves a low-income area that is high in crime and has families that are struggling daily with economical problems. Also over 90 percent of our students are learning English as a second language. In addition, 100 percent of our students are also receiving free school lunches.

My Project

As an educator my main goal is to make sure that my students meet state standards. Technology is a necessary component of everyday teaching and learning. Therefore, having technology available in the classroom is not just a commodity but also a necessity. If I had a laptop available to me, it would allow me to present my students with new material. I believe that with the use of technology in the classroom it will broaden the possibilities for teaching through the use of PowerPoint presentations, educational websites and video clips. It will make learning fun and accessible to all my students.

The donations you make will have a lasting impact on my first grade students.

Using technology in the classroom will help my students meet state standards this school year and keep up with the next school year. It is my dream to captivate all my first grade students whenever I use my laptop to teach my students. I know that helping my students feel empowered through education today will one day create strong leaders tomorrow.
