My Project
The Crochet Club on our high school campus challenges the outdated stereotype that crochet is only for older generations. Instead, it provides a welcoming space where beginners can learn and experienced crocheters can connect with like-minded artists.
Our members, many of whom come from low-income backgrounds, find crochet to be an accessible and rewarding creative outlet.
During meetings, they share new techniques and original crochet patterns while working on projects. With their hooks and yarn, they craft flowers for special occasions like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Día de los Muertos.
While most members are beginners, the club fosters growth, creativity, and a sense of community. Our goal is to help students develop a lifelong hobby that supports their social-emotional well-being. As the club continues to grow, we aim to give back by making hats, scarves, and blankets for those in need.
