Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our classroom, there's never a dull moment. We end our fun-filled learning day with a chant, reminding my students that they are "authors, explorers, mathematicians, scientists, and gems".

My first graders love to read and listen to new books.

We have a lot of fun with our class cheers and meetings; we are always building our community of learners. They come from all over our downtown area so they are very diverse in their backgrounds and home lives. It's a real slice of the world they'll grow up to be an important part of.

My Project

Two iPad minis will help my students become even more immersed in our online books and math practice. We currently have four laptops that cause us a lot of headaches with spotty wifi and next-to-nothing battery lives. We'll be able to consistently read online every day. They can listen to harder books to build their fluency as well as record themselves so I can track their reading as they improve each week. Additionally, we can use the iPads as part of our math centers. Early finishers can strengthen their skills and those who need more practice can use the iPads to practice the fact fluency skills they need in a fun and engaging way.

In addition to the reading and math practice my students will get on a daily basis, these iPads will open them to the ever-expanding world of technology that they are already a part of.

Many of them have limited access at home, even if their family does have an Internet connection. These iPads will help them gain more confidence using the internet and other apps.
