My Students

Do you remember how exciting it was when you first started to read? My students are just starting to discover this new skill. With help I can create new experiences to make them lifelong readers.

My 25, kindergarten students come from an urban neighborhood in a high poverty area.

They attend a K-8 public school. Despite certain disadvantages they come to school everyday excited and ready to learn. For many of my students this is their first time in school and I want them to have a positive outlook on school.

My Project

Listening to rich literature day after day will not only teach my young readers early reading skills such as fluency, but will also teach them to love reading. Engaging in a listening station everyday will help bring stories to life for my students. My students currently love our reading garden. They enjoy reading to our stuffed cat in the hat. Some still tell stories by what they see in the pictures. My students are on different levels but all love stories and having someone read to them. With these nooks my students can read along with stories and can hear the flow of a story.

Reading is an important component in the kindergarten world.

This added resource would be very beneficial for all of my students especially students who are English Language Learners or have special needs. We hope that many of you consider this amazing opportunity.
