My Students

The students at our school are constantly working toward being stewards of our watershed, empowered decision makers, historians and conscientious community members. We are located in south-central Montana, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We are an active, artsy, outdoorsy and environmentally aware community. Being engaged with our "backyard" keeps us connected to our community.

Our daily goal is to explore learning through personal experience.

My Project

Rethink How We Celebrate American History—Indigenous Peoples’ Day! More communities than ever will observe Indigenous Peoples’ Day in place of or in addition to Columbus Day in 2021. We are striving to be part of a larger movement to see a more complete and accurate history of the United States taught in our schools, offered in our libraries and public spaces. These books will modernize the Native Peoples experience in our library. Native Americans are not history, they are still here - and we should celebrate their American resilience.

The importance of celebrating the survival and contemporary experience of Native peoples has never been clearer.

Focusing on diversity and inclusion in education hopefully will contribute to a more empathetic tomorrow. Representation matters; we need these books.
