Students at my school are creative and tech savvy; I would love to see what they could create if we had a green-screen studio in our maker space!
Our students are a diverse group, but what they all have in common is they love technology and using it in and out of school.
We've just opened our maker space and kids are definitely curious and interested to see what it's all about. The green screen studio would definitely be a draw to bring kids into the space and get them working collaboratively.
My Project
Our school is a Math, Science & Technology Magnet Middle School. We pull students from all over the district of Stamford, an urban school in southeastern, CT. We are a project-based learning school and as such our teachers try to create ways that students can demonstrate learning that going beyond just writing an essay or doing a PowerPoint presentation.
To that end, a green screen video studio could allow students another level of creativity with which to demonstrate their learning.
Students could apply their skills and learning from Social Studies and Language Arts to write and produce documentaries about topics they are studying in history. The Vegas Movie Studio editing software could allow them to drop in backgrounds such as the Great Pyramids or The Parthenon into documentaries about ancient Egypt or Greece. Additionally, they could look to current events to craft a news broadcast that could be shared with the entire school. With the Movo Lavalier Condenser Microphones, each broadcaster can have a mic making it look and sound more like a real newsroom.
In Science, students studying weather could produce a weather forecast using the LimoStudio Photography Studio Video Photo ChromaKey Green Screen Background which can allow them to appear as if they are reporting from the hurricane zone while they describe the forces at work that create the weather pattern.
In other science classrooms students are studying the systems of the body. After learning how these systems operate and interact within our bodies, students could produce an "Inner Space" or "Magic School Bus" style video educating younger students about the internal workings of their bodies.
The applications are endless and the skills developed by planning and executing these videos are valuable, real-world skills that will serve them well after their project is handed
