Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been working in this school for 16 years now and I couldn’t be happier. Watching my students grow and become independent learners has been a privilege. My students come from different backgrounds but they all have one thing in common....the passion to learn and become better every day.

For the 2021-2022 school year, I would like for my students to develop a deeper passion for learning, especially during these tough times.

All of my students will be back to school this year and I would like to focus on well-being, self-care, social-emotional learning, and mental health. Many of my students have not been back to the school building for a year and a half and I know that SEL lessons will be necessary in order to make this year a successful one. I want my students to feel safe, appreciated, and most importantly to love themselves.

My Project

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read and discuss in class as well as independently. These social-emotional books will provide my students the opportunity to openly discuss real-world situations and discuss solutions to some of these problems. We will be using these books to build upon our classroom community and to help my students acknowledge their emotions and be able to talk about them. Students will also have the option to share these books with their families at home.
