Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in NYC, to a diverse community of bilingual learners. Our class will be a new classroom from scratch and it will be created with their support come September, the materials asked can help start the process to call this class their home.

My second and third grade students attend a progressive, Title I dual language elementary school in New York City. They come from different backgrounds and have diverse heritages and experiences. They attend a dual-language (English and Spanish) school and are in an ICT classroom. We ensure that this happens by giving them project time where children use their creativity to explore the materials in our classroom setting. Through this exploration they not only take ownership of their own learning but also build confidence in themselves when completed.

I strongly believe that once students are given the appropriate resources, they have the ability to maximize their learning while resting assure the classroom community is safe and unified. It would greatly help my class to have all of the students have access to these materials to foster their independence and give them each the same opportunity to succeed. The materials requested will help all types of learners. Kinesthetic learners will be able to use the entire classroom space for their learning. Visual learners will benefit from the use teacher made materials and tailored to them. Auditory learners will use technology to help their learning through diverse resources that are available.
