Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 1st Grade Reading in a Texas public elementary school. My school is a Title I school, which means that we have a vast number of students who come from low socio-economic backgrounds. Many of my students do not have any books at home. I have a few leveled readers in my classroom that I can send home with the students, but they often read through those quickly, leaving them hungry for more. I would like to be able to send home 2 readers with each student on a nightly basis. Research has overwhelmingly shown that the best way to be a better reader is to actually read. This would also provide an opportunity to involve parents in their child's learning. I am requesting multiple sets of leveled readers for this project. Your donation would make sure that each child in my class has easy access to literature materials at home and at school. There is nothing as fulfilling as seeing the glow on a child's face who is able to read their first book.
