My Students

I have an amazing group of students this year who love to read! Many of them have shared their favorite authors with me and have begged me to start a classroom library. We were fortunate enough to obtain some books to start a classroom library; unfortunately, we don't have a place to store them.

I teach a diverse group of sophomores and seniors at a small city school in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.

We face many challenges here. More than 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunches and almost 10% of our students speak a language other than English at home. Although the poverty level is high, many of the seniors are planning to attend two and four-year colleges this fall.

My Project

These incredible students I have the honor of teaching love literature. Many of them, boys and girls, bring outside-of-class reading with them. We have started a classroom library, but we need a place to store the books so students can access them easily. We need a bookcase to store the books and the first five books in the Bluford High Series to add to our classroom library.

Your donation will directly impact these students and show them that there are people in the community who love reading and believe that literacy matters.

Providing the bookcase will be a daily reminder that reading is power.
